From the eyes of a FactSet Consultant

When reading a job description you can get an understanding of the requirements, prerequisites and what the job entails. However, it is often times hard to understand/grasp exactly what type of environment you will be in. That is why, as a FactSet Consultant, I would like to try to give you an inside look at some of the things that you can look forward to seeing in the Tokyo office.

Here at FactSet we pride ourselves on our working culture. If you were to ask the question, “What do you like about FactSet?” to any FactSet Consultant I can confidently say that in their response you would hear them mention something about, “the people”, “atmosphere” or “corporate culture”. The reason for this is because at FactSet we feel passionately that the key to having successful and driven consultants is to provide an environment where the consultants are not only motivated about their job, but one where they look forward to coming into work each day.

As a consultant you will find that there is the reoccurring common theme, “Balance”. You will find that you are given many responsibilities, yet you have the freedom to manage those responsibilities on your own. Likewise, as a consultant there will be situations where you will be working on your own as well as times where you will be contributing as a group. Most importantly however, is the balance between work and personal. As consultants we are dedicated to our job and work hard each day; however, we also understand that personal time is just as important.

Some other things that you will find about our Tokyo office is our comradery. We respect each other as coworkers which ultimately leads to being able to get along inside and out of the office. Along with the many things that we do as a team in the office, there are also many fun things that we do as a team outside of the office. Just to name some of fun things that we have done this past year as a team include a Bali conference, Yakatabune dinner, and a Karuizawa Ski trip.

For our Bali Conference, all of the consultants from Japan, Hong Kong and Australia got together to spend almost a week in beautiful Bali. For our fiscal year end celebration the Tokyo office spent a nice evening together having dinner on a yakatabune. And last winter the office got together to spend a nice enjoyable weekend in Karuizawa. In addition to the many FactSet organized trips, many of the consultants spend time together outside the office doing things together. Some of these activities include Futsal, Basketball, Baseball, or even just enjoying each others company shopping or traveling. Our industry is dynamic so to keep up with the movement FactSet is also dynamic. But for FactSet to be innovative it first and foremost requires the Consultants to be dynamic. I believe that this is what makes our Tokyo office truly one of a kind.
